The trial periods have been completed for the new Generation Information system, (GIS).
The first trading period for certificates opens on July 15 of this year, with Generators,
wholesale and retail suppliers, and traders all participating in the system.
The current statistics for the system are as follows:
Out of all 215 NEPOOL participants a total of 50 have registered and out of the 666 generators,
196 units have been registered. Generators, LSE's, Traders,
and Regulators should all be registering at this time.
To Register as a participant go to www.nepoolgis.com.
The New England Generation Information System (GIS), developed for the New England
Power Pool by APX Inc., enables efficient verification of retail electric supplier
compliance with various environmental regulations. The system which began operations
in April 2002 creates a certificate for each MWh of energy generated or imported into
New England and allows the environmental attributes of energy to be bought and sold
separately from the energy commodity. Generators, supplying environmental information
on their units including fuel source and emissions data, may be able to receive a premium
for their certificates as retail suppliers go to market to satisfy regulatory requirements
including renewable portfolio standards or create clean or low-emissions products.
